A bit about me

Hello, my name is Sarah Castro and I have been working with children for the last 14 years.  For five years I worked as primary school teacher in several very different schools.  During this time, I had the good fortune to witness the great support that a Specialist Dyslexia Teacher provided to some students in my school.  As a direct result, I then undertook the training myself, gaining a Level 5 OCR qualification as a Specialist Dyslexia Teacher.

Having recently started my own family and still very interested in all things SEN, I then started work as a Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENDCO).  In this role, I learnt about a huge variety of different needs and how best to support them.

One thing I have learnt throughout my career is that a significant proportion of people learn a bit differently; sometimes a different approach is needed.  I believe many more children could achieve their full potential if they had access to more personalised learning - which is what I aim to provide with my services.  I can support your child with their literacy skills in a fun and engaging way that gets to the core of their difficulties.  I also have experience of SEN services and systems generally - if you're new to the world of SEN or feeling unsure of where to start, I can help.

Recent Training Undertaken

I strive to keep my skills and knowledge as up-to-date and relevant as possible.  Recent courses I have attended include:

  • Morph Mastery - A morphological approach to reading and writing with Louise Selby

  • Visual Reading - How to Read Faster and Improve Comprehension with Dr Ross Cooper

  • Hypermobility and Neurodiversity with Dr Jessica Eccles

  • Enabling Autistic Girls with Susan Brooks

  • Improving Reading Comprehension and Enjoyment with Laura Bloomberg
